The company operates eight hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) installed along Paranapanema River, and two small HPPs located on Sapucaí River, all in the state of São Paulo.
For its HPPs, the company has two concession contracts entered into with the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL). The first, covering the power plants Jurumirim, Chavantes, Salto Grande, Capivara, Taquaruçu and Rosana, would expire in 2029. The second expires in 2033, and covers the power plants Canoas I and Canoas II, operated under a consortium arrangement with Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio, with Rio Paranapanema holding 49.7% of the installed capacity, equivalent to 51.18 megawatts average. The subsidiary Rio Sapucaí-Mirim Energia Ltda. operates the small HPPs Palmeiras and Retiro based on ANEEL authorization resolutions that expire in 2032.
The company’s installed capacity is 2,241.3 megawatts, consisting of various power plants operating in the state of São Paulo: HPP Capivara, HPP Chavantes, HPP Jurumirim, HPP Salto Grande, HPP Taquaruçu, HPP Rosana and 49.7% of the Canoas Complex, consisted of HPPs Canoas l and ll.
The company holds 99.99% of equity interest in the company Rio Sapucaí-Mirim Energia Ltda. (Controlled Company). The Controlled Company’s installed capacity is 32.5 MW, consisting of small HPPs Retiro and Palmeiras, located on the Sapucaí River, in the Municipalities of Guará and São Joaquim da Barra, both in the state of São Paulo. In 2017, the company’s power plants generated 13,525.02 GWh of energy,

History
The company was founded in 1999. It was formerly known as Duke Energy International, Geração Paranapanema S.A. and changed its name to Rio Paranapanema Energia S.A. in 2017.
