Mullen Group Ltd. supplies trucking and logistics services in Canada.
The company provides a range of service offerings, including less-than-truckload (LTL), truckload, warehousing, logistics, transload, oversized and specialized hauling transportation. In addition, it provides a set of specialized services related to the oil and natural gas industry in western Canada, water management, fluid hauling and environmental reclamation.
Through its Business Units, the company owned or leased approximately 3,105 power units and had access to an additional 867 power units under contract with Owner Operators and Dedicated Subcontractors; approximately 8,292 trailers (the majority being owned), which include vans, flatbeds, dry bulk trailers, removable gooseneck trailers, specialized trailers and temperature controlled trailers; approximately 605 skid and trailer mounted dri-prime diesel pumps, 695 submersible pumps, 129 portable diesel generators, 65 sediment control tanks, 16 fusion machines, 69 portable engineered barges and 3 portable dredges; approximately 193 pieces of earthmoving equipment consisting of excavators, dozers, rock trucks and frontend loaders; a fleet of truck mounted drilling units, including 30 hydraulic single rigs capable of coring, surface casing and shallow gas drilling, 10 auger drilling rigs and one dual rotary rig; and approximately 770 light duty vehicles.
Segments
The company operates through two segments, Trucking/Logistics and Oilfield Services.
Trucking/Logistics: This segment, which consists of 18 business units, conducts business in Canada and the continental United States, offers a range of LTL general freight and truckload services to customers in Canada and the United States. Through a terminal network, the LTL part of the business provides the pickup, handling and delivery of a wide range of smaller shipments, packages and general freight including Ambient and consumer goods coordinated from regional hubs located in Ontario and western Canada. In addition, this segment provides shippers throughout North America with a range of trucking and logistics service offerings, including full truckload, specialized transportation, warehousing, fulfillment centres that handle e-commerce transactions, and transload facilities designed for intermodal and bulk shipments. The company’s network serves approximately 5,000 communities covering approximately two-thirds of the Canadian population. In addition to its network of full service terminals, the company has additional capacity through Moveitonline, which allows it to expand its service offerings geographically and improve on efficiencies within its supply chain and logistics systems
Oilfield Services: This segment consists of business units that provide well-servicing, specialized transportation, dewatering, and drilling services to the oil and natural gas industry, municipalities and the construction industry. These services are collectively referred to as Oilfield Services and could be grouped into the following four categories:
Production Services: This includes well servicing, production fluid transportation, transportation of fluids for disposal, and frac support.
Specialized Services: This includes dredging and dewatering services, large diameter pipe stockpiling and stringing services, transporting of oversize and overweight shipments, hydrovac excavation services, and hydrostatic testing services to the pipeline industry and midstream sector.
Drilling Related Services: This includes the transportation, handling and storage of oilfield fluids, tubulars and drilling mud, drilling rig relocation, general oilfield hauling, and well disposal facility.
Drilling Services: This includes core drilling, setting surface casing, and conductor pipe setting.
History
The company was founded in 1949. It was incorporate in 1983. The company was formerly known as Mullen Group Income Fund and changed its name to Mullen Group Ltd. in 2009.
